Jeongdong-gil

📍 Seoul

Jeongdong-gil is an old street in Jung-gu, Seoul, running along the western stone wall of Deoksugung Palace. The neighborhood takes its name from "Jeongdong," which was the center of modern diplomacy in the late Joseon era — the US, UK, and Russian legations were all clustered here, and remnants like the old Russian Legation site and Jeongdong Church still stand today. But what truly put Jeongdong-gil on the map nationwide was the 2016 tvN drama "Goblin." The scene of the two leads, Kim Shin and Ji Eun-tak, walking together under the ginkgo-lined stone wall was filmed right here, and during the show's run the street filled with visitors retracing their steps. Honestly, there's no official marker or photo zone commemorating the filming — without knowing in advance, it just looks like a pretty stone-wall lane. Looking up the exact scene beforehand makes the visit far more rewarding. The most photogenic stretch is where Deoksugung's stone wall meets the ginkgo trees; in autumn (late Oct-Nov) the yellow leaves against the gray stone are stunning, though that also means heavier crowds. Early morning tends to be quieter. Jeongdong-gil is a free, open public street accessible 24/7, about a 10-minute walk from City Hall Station (Lines 1/2) or Seodaemun Station (Line 5).

ℹ️ Travel infoOpen 24/7, free. About a 10-minute walk from City Hall Station Exit 1 (Lines 1/2) or Seodaemun Station (Line 5). No dedicated parking (nearby paid public lots only).
📸 Best photo spotThe ginkgo-lined stretch near Deoksugung's stone wall is the classic shot. Fall foliage (late Oct-Nov) is most dramatic but also most crowded.
