Gwanghuimun

Gwanghuimun

📍 Seoul

Gwanghuimun, the southeast of the Four Minor Gates of the Hanyangdoseong wall, was built in 1396. Because sending a funeral procession through one of the grand main gates like Sungnyemun or Heunginjimun was considered improper, the dead were traditionally carried out of the city through this gate instead — earning it the nickname 'sigumun,' or corpse gate.

The current gate tower is a later reconstruction. It's close to Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) and Doota Mall, making it an easy add-on to a Dongdaemun shopping trip.

Open 24 hours, every day.
