Gahoe Museum

📍 Seoul

The Gahoe Museum, tucked inside Bukchon Hanok Village, specializes in Korean folk paintings (minhwa). These were the pictures ordinary Joseon-era households hung to invite good fortune and ward off bad energy, featuring familiar motifs like tigers, magpies, the ten symbols of longevity, and peonies.

Beyond viewing the collection, the museum runs hands-on workshops where visitors can try painting their own minhwa, making it popular with families.

Open 10 AM-6 PM (viewing until 40 minutes before closing, workshops until 1 hour before); closed Mondays.
