Ewha Womans University traces its roots to Ewha Hakdang, founded May 31, 1886 by American Methodist missionary Mary F. Scranton — Korea's first modern school for women, and today one of the world's largest women's universities.
Past the main gate, the ECC (Ewha Campus Complex), completed in 2008, is a sprawling underground facility designed by French architect Dominique Perrault. Carved into the campus's hilly terrain like a canyon, it houses a library, gym, and shops below ground, while the surface above is kept open as lawns and walking paths.
Individual facilities inside the ECC (library, gym, etc.) each keep their own hours, so there isn't a single published "ECC hours" figure. The campus itself is an open public space, free to walk through.
