Eulsukdo Park

A winter refuge for migratory birds at the Nakdong River estuary — this is Eulsukdo Park.

Land once degraded by use as farmland, a sewage treatment site, and a landfill was restored through a three-phase wetland project starting in 1999, taking its current shape as an eco park by 2005.

Thanks to its position at the Nakdong estuary migratory bird sanctuary, tens of thousands of birds — including whooper swans and white-naped cranes — arrive here each winter for a spectacular sight, and the Nakdong Estuary Eco Center offers birdwatching information and exhibits.

The park splits into a bird park (lower section) and an eco park (upper section), linked by well-maintained trails and bike paths that make it a pleasant place to walk regardless of season.

Honestly, though, seeing large numbers of birds means timing your visit to the winter migration season (roughly November to February), and the grounds are large enough that renting a bike beats walking if you want to cover the whole park.

The Busan Museum of Contemporary Art sits right next door, so pairing the two into a half-day is a good plan; the park is open 08:00-19:00 (exhibition hall 09:00-18:00), closed Mondays.
