Busan Citizens Park

Busan Citizens Park occupies the former site of Camp Hialeah (also called Hialeah Compound), a U.S. Army base, and opened on May 1, 2014.

The site was originally a horse-racing track during the Japanese colonial period. It later became a U.S. military base and served as a critical Korean War logistics hub, receiving and distributing U.S. Army supplies nationwide — at its peak hosting around 2,500 U.S. military and Department of Defense personnel. Closure was announced in 2005, the land was returned to Busan in 2006, and after environmental cleanup, it reopened as a public park.

Spread across 473,911 sqm, the park is organized around five themes — memory, culture, pleasure, nature, and participation — and repurposes original military structures, including Quonset huts, as a history museum and cultural facilities.
