Bokcheon-dong Tomb Cluster

Bokcheon-dong Tomb Cluster

📍 Busan

The Bokcheon-dong Tomb Cluster consists of Gaya-era tombs on a hillside in the Bokcheon-dong area of Busan.

Repeated excavations have confirmed around 40 tombs, though most remain buried underground. A range of burial styles have been found together here — wooden-chamber tombs with a wide dug-out room and a wooden coffin, stone-chamber pit tombs built with square stone walls and a covered ceiling, and simple burials where the body was placed directly in the ground.

The fact that so many different burial styles are found together in one place makes this a valuable resource for tracing how Gaya burial customs changed over time. The Bokcheon Museum, a branch of the Busan Museum, sits nearby, making it easy to visit both together.
