Sewoon Plaza was South Korea's first comprehensive electronics market, and remains one with a long-standing tradition.
Located in Jongno, the heart of Seoul, it's known as the hub of the city's electronics industry. It handles a wide range of electronic goods — electrical and electronic parts, materials, computer semiconductors, sound equipment, electronics, CCTV systems, arcade machines, karaoke equipment, lighting — with skilled craftsmen gathered here to work with them.
Given its long history, many well-known companies passed through here in their early days, and it played a role in the early days of Korea's computer and software industry. In recent years, the building's distinctive retro concrete facade and rooftop observation deck have been rediscovered, making it popular among younger generations as a photo spot — a role that goes well beyond its original function as an electronics market.
