Seoul Metropolitan Library

Seoul Metropolitan Library

📍 Seoul

Seoul Metropolitan Library opened in 2012 inside the former Seoul City Hall, a building constructed in 1926 during the Japanese colonial period. When the new, glass-fronted City Hall rose up behind it, the old building was given a second life as a public library.

The facade facing Seoul Plaza still shows its early modern Western-style architecture, while the side facing the new City Hall was fitted with a waterfall-like glass wall of books, now a popular photo spot in its own right.

Open 9 AM-9 PM on weekdays, 9 AM-6 PM on weekends (hours vary by reading room); closed Mondays and public holidays.
