National Museum of Korean Contemporary History
📍 SeoulOpened in 2012, the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History covers the sweep of Korea's modern history — from the opening of the ports in the late Joseon period, through the Korean War, industrialization, and democratization, to the present day. It sits right next to Gwanghwamun Square, an easy add-on to a Gyeongbokgung visit.
The 8th-floor rooftop deck offers a free, sweeping view over Gwanghwamun Square, Gyeongbokgung, and Bugaksan beyond — a popular photo spot in its own right.
Open 10 AM-6 PM (until 9 PM on Wednesdays and Saturdays), last entry 30 minutes before closing. Closed Jan 1 and on Lunar New Year/Chuseok.
