Kansong Art Museum was founded in 1938 by the collector Jeon Hyeong-pil (pen name Gansong), who spent his personal fortune to build Korea's first private museum. It's especially famous for holding the Hunminjeongeum Haerye — a National Treasure and UNESCO Memory of the World document — along with numerous other National Treasures and Treasures.
Tucked away on a quiet hillside in Seongbuk-dong, it's a calm place to take in the collection when exhibitions are running. It mainly operates around special exhibitions, so it's worth checking the current schedule before visiting.
