Mukojimahyakkaen

A garden created during the Bunka-Bunsei era (1804–1830), when Edo's merchant-class culture was in full flower. Its creator was Sahara Kiku, previously an antiques dealer, who — with help from the Edo literati and artists in his circle — built a privately run flower garden centered on viewing flowering plants, on the Mukojima site of the former estate of the Taga family, direct retainers of the shogun.
