Heon and In Royal Tombs

Heon and In Royal Tombs

📍 Seoul

Heon-in-neung is the combined name for two royal tomb sites: Heolleung, the tomb of King Taejong (Joseon's 3rd king) and Queen Wongyeong, and Illeung, the tomb of King Sunjo (the 23rd king) and Queen Sunwon — two of the 40 tombs that make up the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty.

Set in a dense pine forest near Yangjae in Seocho-gu, it offers a quiet walk despite being well within the city. The burial mounds themselves are viewed from a set path rather than approached directly, and the grounds include auxiliary buildings like the ritual preparation hall and the memorial pavilion.

Closed Mondays; open 9 AM until somewhere between 5:30 and 6:30 PM depending on the season (last ticket sold 1 hour before closing).
