Culture Station Seoul 284

Culture Station Seoul 284

📍 Seoul

Culture Station Seoul 284 is a multi-purpose cultural space built by restoring the original form of the old Seoul Station building — a major stage in Korea's modern history and a gateway for transportation and exchange.

Starting as Namdaemun Station in 1900, the building went through Gyeongseong Station before becoming Seoul Station, and closed as the "old" station building when a new one opened in 2004. It's this building that has been reborn as today's platform for cultural and artistic creation — Culture Station Seoul 284, with "284" taken from its registration number as National Registered Cultural Heritage No. 284.

The exterior seen today faithfully restores the look of Gyeongseong Station as it appeared in 1925, and its European Renaissance-style exoticism draws the eye. The restoration kept true to original materials and methods — red brick, granite flooring, artificial-stone-clad walls, and birchwood floors.

Today it functions as a platform for creation and exchange, hosting a rich variety of exhibitions, performances, and workshops — so you get to enjoy both the building itself and whatever exhibition happens to be running. Being right next to Seoul Station also makes it very easy to reach.

ℹ️ Travel infoHours and closed days vary by exhibition. Permanent exhibits free (some special exhibits may charge). Right next to Seoul Station.
📸 Best photo spotThe classic angle from the front plaza, showing both the European-style dome roof and red brick, is the most iconic shot. Don't miss the granite floor and birch-wood flooring inside the old waiting hall either.
