Cheonggye Plaza

Cheonggye Plaza, in Jung-gu, Seoul, sits at Sejong-ro, where the Cheonggyecheon stream begins, designed as an eco-friendly, nature-inspired public space.

With plenty to see and easy access, it's regarded as one of Seoul's signature attractions, popular with both locals and foreign tourists. Its symbol is the tri-color candle fountain, along with a two-tier waterfall cascading 4m down. On either side of the waterfall lies "Palseokdam," a stone arrangement made from rocks gathered from all eight historic provinces of Korea.

At night, the lights come on, giving the plaza an even more vibrant atmosphere. It marks the starting point for a stroll along Cheonggyecheon, and makes a good spot to rest for a moment in the heart of the city.
